Some people have real estate and sales in their blood, I’m not one of them. Like most young adults, I was questioned about my goals and what I planned to “BE” when I grew up. Adults pressure you enough and eventually you select a career based on what you know, which is not much at 17. But, I was a huge fan of “Who’s The Boss” (you remember, groundbreaking role reversal with Tony Danza and Judith Light) so I picked advertising exec out of a hat. I suspect this is a popular tactic since my oldest daughter says she wants to be a crime scene investigator (“Criminal Minds”) and my youngest daughter wants to a cupcake confectioner (“Cupcake Wars”). My middle daughter wants to be President…I rest my case. After graduating from Southwest Missouri State (A.K.A. MSU, F.K.A. SMS/SMSU) with a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Advertising, I went to the big glamorous world of ad agency, where I learned from some really creative and talented people about client immersion and building catered marketing solutions. A year after college, I followed my future husband from Springfield to Kansas City where he had a taken a position in mortgage lending. I took a job with a big city agency working in a small department they had dedicated to “New Media” which, in the then print and television world, included anything related to the internet. We were referred to the “Black Team” probably because we were the black sheep of the advertising industry. Times change quickly though, and I couldn’t be more thankful for the opportunities I experienced working in the “new media” that has transformed into today’s “critical media”. Eventually, I took my marketing skills to the real estate world by developing a FSBO assistance program to generate mortgage leads. By proximity I began learning about the world of mortgage lending where I ultimately held the roles of loan processor, underwriter, closer, originator and operations manager….so I can probably answer some of your basic mortgage questions. I also realized the value of having experienced professionals involved in one of your biggest life purchases, so in 2006, after 7 years in mortgage lending, I became a licensed Realtor. In the past 10 years I’ve learned a lot, made some mistakes (so you don’t have to) and developed many friendships along the way. I’m still trying to figure out who I want to “BE” when I grow up, but what I “DO,” everyday, is help others navigate the world of real estate. If you’re looking to buy or sell a home, give me a call, I’d love to help you, too.
